Scholarship Application

It has been the proud tradition of the Italian American Lawyers Association (IALA) to award an annual scholarship to an exceptional law student. On average, approximately 15 to 20 applications are received each year. All applicants receive a one year membership in our organization at no charge.

This year, we will be offering a scholarship in the amount of $3,000.00. In addition to a one year free membership in our organization, IALA will give each law student applicant a one year membership in the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

The 2015 IALA Scholarship recipient will be honored at our annual meeting with the California Supreme Court. It is truly a special event.

The recipient of the 2015 IALA Scholarship will be selected based on their academic achievement, potential contribution to the Italian-American Community and financial need. All information received by IALA will be verified to the extent possible, i.e., with the law school registrar. A certified transcript is requested by the evaluation committee.

The IALA Scholarship is yet another example of this organization's endless love and generosity. The funding this scholarship provided helped me manage the expenses associated with becoming a member of the California Bar. In addition to the funding, IALA provided me with support, advice, and comfort throughout my law school career. I know that have a home in the organization and feel comfortable reaching out to any of the attorneys or judges for mentorship. Walking into the Casa Italiana during my 1L year was the best decision of my legal career. I look forward to the day when I can officially take my attorney oath in the presence of all the IALA attorneys.

- Tatiana Smerjian, USC, 2013 Joint IALA/NIABA Scholarship Winner

The Italian American Lawyers Association felt like home from the very first meeting. As a first year law student, I was a little nervous as I walked into Casa Italiana in February of 2012. However, IALA welcomed me in with open arms and I was quickly introduced to many influential lawyers and judges in Los Angeles. Being awarded the IALA Scholarship was a tremendous honor. It felt amazing knowing that I had my IALA family rooting for me while I was in law school. I look forward to being involved in IALA for many years to come.

- Dominic Nunneri, USC, 2012 IALA Scholarship Winner

Winning the IALA scholarship was one of the most exciting and memorable experiences of my law school career. Not only did the scholarsh ip provide me with crucial funds for my Bar Exam fees and prep course, it opened me up to a network of professionals who are as kind and open as they are committed to excellence.

I also never imagined that I would have the opportunity to recognize and thank my family for being so supportive in front of an audience that included the California Supreme Court. I will always be grateful to IALA for that moment.

- Janna Brancolini, Loyola Law School, 2013 IALA Scholarship Winner
